A Profound Practice: Uncovering the True Expression of Your Yoga

A week-end practice intensive that provides an opportunity to put our practice under the microscope, to connect with the true essence of yoga and to inspire us to bring our practice into our everyday lives.

In the first session we will consider our reasons for practice and examine how we tend to practice. We will then determine if there is a gap to be bridged between our reasons for practice and the way we practice. In the second session, we will discuss the benefits and challenges of a self practice and some tips for commencing or maintaining your self practice. We will also contemplate how we can allow our practice on the mat to infiltrate more into our everyday lives, off the mat.

Inspired by the book, Bringing Yoga to Life by Donna Farhi, each of the two workshop sessions will include approximately half asana (posture) practice and half discussion and theory.

Biography | Salima Stanley-Bhanji
Born and raised in Australia, to an Australian mother and Indian father, Salima was exposed to eastern spiritual perspectives at an early age and first practiced meditation at the age of 12. More than 15 years ago, she gained certification as an aerobics instructor, working in the fitness industry for sometime and then obtaining a degree in kinesiology and communication, and later, in law.

While working in corporate marketing and then as a litigation lawyer, the demands of a more stressful work life provoked Salima to discover yoga asana practice and begin teaching  yoga in 2007.   More recently, Salima has run a yoga studio and was the Executive Director of a non-profit agency advocating for people living on low income and in poverty.

Living in Canada the last 13 years, she has been traveling and working in South America for the past eight months, teaching classes and workshops. Salima is a vinyasa flow teacher and enjoys mixing some restorative flavour and vipassana philosophy into an invigorating practice.
